Hebden Bridge to Mytholmroyd along the canal

From Hebden Bridge station walk towards the main road. You will see the entrance to Calder Holmes Park on your left and opposite on your right an unmade road. From here you can access the canal towpath. This area is called Mayroyd and as you walk along notice the houseboats, many of them permanent residences.

Route to Canal Towpath

A ten minute walk along the towpath will bring you to bridge no. 14 which is a tunnel and where the canal crosses the main road.

An alternative route to the main road is by a path just before you reach bridge 14. It winds through a small wooded area, passes an electricity sub-station and ends on a bridge. Turn left and cross the main road to get back onto the canal towpath. (This path is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. It is also muddy after rain).

Walk up the slope to the main road and cross over to continue on the towpath. A brisk ten minute walk, under bridges 13 and 12, will bring you to the centre of Mytholmroyd. Leave the canal by the steps at bridge no. 11 which will bring you onto Midgley Road.

Towpath continues on the other side of the main road
Steps by bridge no. 11

Turn right to the main road and right again when you reach it. There are bus stops here, or if you are travelling by train, cross on the pedestrian crossing and walk across the bridge on New Road. You will see signs for the railway station on your left after approx. 100 yds.
