Tucked away on the hillside below Heptonstall is a lovely wood with a network of decorative wide paths. You can imagine the local gentry promenading along the hillside, looking down on the mills below. Nobody, it seems, quite knows why they were built.

The elaborate woodland terraces and flights of stone steps were almost certainly constructed in the late nineteenth century, making Eaves Wood one of Hebden Bridge's most intriguing landscapes. This dense network of paths has been enjoyed by local people for generations. Curiously, although open to all, several paths are not official rights of way, but you are free to use them.
